March 23, 1950-October 28, 2022
Donna Jane Hilterbridel Wendt, 72, died peacefully at home with her loving husband holding her hand on Friday, October 28, ending a long battle with dementia.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Benson Funeral Home Chapel, Saint Cloud, MN. The visit will be one hour before the service at the funeral home on Thursday. The grave will be at North Star Cemetery, Saint Cloud, Minnesota.
Donna was born in Beckley, West Virginia on March 23, 1950, to parents Jeanine (Anderson) and Forrest Hilterbridley. Her family grew up and moved up and down the California coast following her father’s career in the Navy. Stops included San Diego and Treasure Island in the San Francisco Bay. As the eldest of eight children, she led her siblings on adventures across the naval base, often resulting in physical discipline upon their return home. She moved here to Minnesota with her mother in 1968. While raising her children, Donna tended to cows, pigs, and young pigs. After planting, she worked for the Golden Plump and later retired from Electrolux in 2012. She married John Wendt on June 22, 2004. John and Donna went to Alaska to get married to avoid the marital counseling required here in Minnesota because they didn’t think they needed just the fact that a marriage license was cheaper. Donna enjoyed driving and drove most of the way to Alaska including several hundred miles of dirt roads because it was short. In Alaska they met an old friend, who took them on many adventures, including clam fishing, halibut fishing and all the good places to eat. The joke is “They were married by an Eskimo on an iceberg.” Other adventures during their marriage included the famous ice water race; Mud running through the swamp at the shack, (the hot girl was on the back of John’s four-wheeler), four-wheeler camping at Crosby Ironton. She was not afraid of getting dirty. Her life included many “sister road trips” to Chicago and Michigan. She loved horror movies, playing candy crush, going to the casino and everything related to tweedy.
Donna’s death was preceded by her parents and brother Jerry Hilterbridley.
