Jordan’s love may finally settle down with the Green Bay Packers. The third-year quarterback has been exposed to a lot of heat—mostly unnecessary—during his NFL career. With three-time MVP Aaron Rodgers under center, Love didn’t have many opportunities to showcase himself.
Love hasn’t impressed anyone in camp since he was recruited by the Packers in 2020. He struggled in his first start last year when Rodgers sat down after he tested positive for COVID-19. This camp was a little different than love. It makes people take notice, and it’s an old friend of the Packers who makes that happen.

Through no fault of his own, Love got into a difficult situation with the Packers. Green Bay manager Brian Gutekunst shocked Packer Nation when he traded in the first round in the 2020 NFL Draft to grab Love.
This came after Rodgers led the team to a record 13-3 and a berth in an NFC title match. Although Low was considered the best quarterback in the draft, there was no immediate need for Green Bay. This choice seemed to provoke animosity between Rodgers and the team, but it also seemed to galvanize veteran QB. Since the selection, Rodgers has spent two consecutive seasons of All-Pro.
Entering its third season, Love seems more comfortable in camp. He won instant praise from coach Matt LaFleur after his first day in the pads.
“I think that was probably one of his best practices we’ve seen in three years,” LaFleur said, according to Packers News’ Cassidy Hill.
Low had quarterback coach Tom Clements on his feet. Clements returned to Green Bay after serving as midfield coach and offensive coordinator from 2006-2016 under Mike McCarthy. He worked with the Arizona Cardinals for two seasons before retiring in January 2021. Now, he’s back in Green Bay and has the love of feeling so good about the movement of his feet.
“Watching a movie from last year, the games I played, a lot of throws, my feet would kind of be, they don’t get pointing at the target, and they don’t have a perfect base. So that’s the most important thing I’ve been working on,” Love said. Whenever you throw, whether you get off the platform or not, just try to get back to base as fast as you can, and keep growing from that base.
“When you hit a base, you have more power and you can get your hips into it. You just have more power, rather than throwing all the time when you’re a little bit off the platform.”
Rodgers played a role in luring Clements back to Green Bay, and he said the basics are key to getting love on the right track.
“I mentioned it to Matt, you know after the season…if he wants to bring someone in to teach the basics the right way, every day, Tom is the guy,” Rodgers said.
“Caring about the basics, I think it would really help Jordan and Danny (Ettling) because if you want to be accurate in this league you have to throw the ball with rhythm and balance. And I think for the first time there is an appropriate amount of focus on those fundamentals.”
