Osprey Hikelite 18L Daypack review: Great aeration and versatility

With an artistic design and a few added extras, the Osprey Hikelite 18L pack challenges the brand’s old favorite, the Daylite daypack.

There is no shortage of technology Daypacks are there. In fact, it’s one of the biggest classes of gear I’ve tested for GearJunkie. It takes something special to stand out in such a crowded category, and while the Hikelite 18L daypack doesn’t break any new technical ground, the Osprey has honed it into a near-perfect daypack.

The goal of the Hikelite Series Osprey is to create a “modest”, versatile package—one with enough tech features to support daily two-digit trips, and enough comfort to support general everyday wear. We set out to see how close the Osprey was.

In short: The Heklite 18 ($95) is an excellent option (under $100!) if you’re looking for an all-in-one and useful day package that also has some tech features.

We’ve had our testing for months, and the size, pocket position, and overall durability stood out to us. Breathability and breathability are better than other Osprey daypack options – so if comfort is of paramount importance, Hikelite should top your list.

I wouldn’t say this Hikelite is the “moderate locks” of the bundles – there are too many bundles on the market to be able to The optimum. However, compared to other Osprey models and daypack variations, the Osprey Hikelite 18L stands out as one of my top two favorites.

why? The ratio of size to tech features to price is excellent for those who want a versatile package that they can take anywhere.

Both Daylite and Hikelite daypacks from Osprey have removable orthopedic and hip strap straps, a hydration reservoir, side pockets, compression straps, and a main zip compartment.

However, the Hikelite offers a slightly more comfortable fit for longer periods on the road and is a bit more technical in terms of pack features. I also found the Hikelite to be more ventilated/breathable, specifically due to the AirScape back panel and the various ventilated carry straps.

Inversely, the Delight Lighter weight, smaller packaged, better choice for general use. The Delight Plus It offers quite a few additional compartments and is more expandable, making it the best travel package out of the three.

For more technical height and better versatility (depending on where my day took me), I favored the Osprey Hikelite 18L a bit more—particularly the additions of the larger zippers, touring pole ring attachments, and rain cover.

Overall, this day package withstood over 100 miles in the test. The exterior is durable, the straps are comfortable, and the back panel is as breathable as heck. This package is a winner, especially in hot and humid climates.

I found it to be a perfect fit for what the Osprey was designed for: general everyday use and hiking on technical trails alike. Its 18 liter volume is large enough for longer days (although a 26 liter option is also available).
